Luke 8:22-25

Large crowds gathered to hear Jesus. He spoke to people with special stories called parables. Many people did not understand the stories. But Jesus explained all these stories to His disciples. One evening after Jesus had done a lot of teaching, He said, “Let us go across to the other side.” And leaving the crowd, the disciples took Him with them in the boat. And other boats were with Him. A great windstorm arose. The waves came into the boat. They were so high that the boat was filling with water. Jesus was in the back of the boat, called the stern. He was asleep on the cushion. The disciples woke Jesus. They said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care? We are perishing!” He awoke and rebuked the wind. He said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” The wind stopped. There was a great calm. Then Jesus said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” The twelve disciples were filled with great fear. They said to one another, “Who then is this, that He commands even winds and water, and they obey Him!” The disciples still did not understand who Jesus was. They would still learn that He was the Messiah. They would learn that He was the Son of God.
