Bulletin Announcements for Sunday, May 17, 2020

WE WILL NOT be having acolytes serve in the Worship Services for the next few weeks, but please don’t throw away your current schedule (in case we are able to start again). Families will be contacted when we will start the schedule again.

FLOWERS ON THE ALTAR are placed to God’s glory by Wilma Adams in loving memory of her husband, John, who passed away on May 4, 2012.

School News

We are planning to host several days during the week of May 17th
 for a drop-off of school materials for
our school families. Families will be able to bring back any school materials (textbooks, library books,
classroom items, etc.) while picking up any remaining items from their child’s desk or locker.
In order to space families out during the return process, the following schedule has been established:

Sunday, May 17th 9:00 am – 10:30 am Open to any families
Monday, May 18th 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm Families with children’s last names A – L
Tuesday, May 19th 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm Families with children’s last names M – Z

If the above times don’t work for your schedule, you may come at one of the other listed days above. In
addition, below is an overview of the process we want families to follow for the drop-off of materials:
1. As much as we’d love to see our students, we are asking that only parents come into the school building.
2. Park anywhere on the parking lot and enter into the building by the gymnasium doors. The outside doors
will be propped open for you and someone will be just inside the doors to welcome you and check you in.
3. After being checked in, we’ll have you carry any bags / boxes of school supplies to your child’s classroom.
We’ll have carts available for families to use if they have several bags to get to the classrooms. Make sure
that each bag has your child’s name written on it so that we can be sure it’s getting back to the correct room!
4. Teachers will be in their rooms during the above times to greet you. You’ll be able to drop off the bags /
boxes following the direction of the teachers. In addition, they’ll have some other items from your child’s
desk, locker, and the hallway for you to take home as well.
5. Once you are done dropping items off to your child’s classroom(s), we want you to exit the school building
through the school lobby using the main school entrance doors. As you head out this way, you may stop by
the school office if you need to drop off any final payments of tuition or of school year fees.
Families will also be picking up from the school office an envelope with the end of year report cards
 for each of their children, so don’t forget to stop by the office or you’ll miss this!
End of the year balances will be sent home to families on this weekend. If you have fallen behind on tuition
or have outstanding balances from lunch, technology fees, or Extended Care, please make every effort to clear
these up before the end of the school year. We appreciate all you’ve done to get these balances paid.
We also know that some families have been impacted by having their hours reduced or by being temporarily laid
off from work. If you have been financially impacted and can’t make a full tuition payment, please email

Mr. Hopfensperger to inform him of your situation. We will be very understanding and supportive of these
unfortunate circumstances and will certainly work with families through this difficult journey.
Several families have already paid registration for next school year – thank you.
The original due date was Thursday, April 30th. However, in light of the recent events, we are going to extend the due date for
 registration fees for the 2020 – 2021 school year by two months to Tuesday, June 30th
While the school building and school office is closed to all visitors at this time, there will be someone in the
school office Monday through Friday between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. If you need to speak with someone in
the office, please call 636-239-1636 during these times.
We are currently looking to fill the role of Extended Care Director. The director would be in leading the 3
year old and 4 year old children who stay at ILS from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm each day. The position typically
is about 20 hours a week, working the daily hours listed above. The director would plan out the day for the
children with play and enrichment activities, as well as oversee the program as it extends from 3:00 to 6:00 pm.

We are also seeking names of interested candidates to fill the role of Extended Care assistants for the next
school year. These individuals would work from 3:00 – 6:00 pm with children ages 3 through 3rd grade. If you
are interested in applying for this part-time position (approximately 10-12 hours a week) in the after-school program, email or call Mr. Hopfensperger.

The Board of Education has been working on the new Infant & Toddler Program . . . and we’re still
anticipating the program to begin in early August! We are very excited about this new endeavor and appreciate
all of your prayers over the last few months. The Board of Education has recently hired Mrs. Jillian Van Leer to
be the director of this new program . . . but she will also continue as teacher in our PreK 3 Day program! The
program will be housed in the lower level of Immanuel Lutheran Church and will have three classrooms of
different ages available:
Infant 1 will be 6 weeks + Toddler 1 will be 12 months + Toddler 2 will be 2 years +
Starting on May 1st, enrollment for the program will be open to our Immanuel Lutheran Church and School
families. We will give enrollment priority to Immanuel Church and School families until May 22nd or until the
open spots are filled. On Saturday, May 23rd, we will start filling spots with enrollment from the community.
Once spots are filled, we will begin a waiting list for additional families who are interested.

With this new program beginning, Immanuel is now accepting applicants for Lead Teachers in the Infant 1,
Toddler 1 and Toddler 2 classrooms for the 2020 – 2021 school year. We are seeking individuals with at least
2 years of Early Childhood experience (college courses, field experience, teaching, etc). To apply, please send a

Youth News

LOOKING TO HAVE A JOINT LIVE & IN_PERSON OUTDOOR JR. & SR. HIGH YOUTH GET TOGETHER HOPEFULLY SUNDAY, JUNE 7th FROM 5 - 7 PM.  Youth and families are welcomed to join us if able for a picnic and fun, weather permitting on Sunday the 7th of June. We will grill burgers and hot dogs on the green space and have other refreshments to bring. Just let Mr. W. know who is coming so we can plan for the right amount of food.   
Some guidelines to follow:
We will provide the food and drink, no need to bring anything, other than a lawn chair or blanket to sit on.
Same guidelines as church: if you have been sick, or feel sick, or have been around someone who is sick, stay home for this event. We will social distance while we are here.
Check with parents and make sure it is ok to join us (parents invited as well)

As this is the first event back, we realize some may be a little gun shy to join us. THAT IS UNDERSTANDABLE! Please join us if you are comfortable with it.
By then I hope to have some more definitive ideas about youth ministry for the summer months.

New idea starting this week --- WALK & TALK WITH WUNDERLICH!  (Mr. W. needs to start getting some muscle built back into his leg). On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays Mr. W. will meet with anyone interested at Lions Lake from 9 - 10 AM, (parking lot by the stage) to walk and catch up (use guidelines above.) ALL MEMBERS OF THE CONGREGATION, YOUTH TO ADULT, ARE WELCOME TO JOIN US!  We will social distance but get some exercise and take the opportunity to catch us as well. HOPE YOU CAN JOIN US. IF IT IS RAINING MEET AT THE SCHOOL IN THE GYM ENTRANCE.

SPEAKING OF RESOURCES - Mr W. has copies of a great, easy reading Christian book entitled, “A Student's Guide to Anxiety”. This is a very good, easy read, Christian book that I will get into the hands of any youth (or adults) interested. Text, Email, or call me if interested!  We would love to get it into the hands of any youth who would be interested.  We just started a zoom study on this topic Wednesday night.  ALL are invited to join us.  More information on the blog.

Lucy Banion has also started a good positive twitter feed called @goodvibesonlyim. Check it out!

WE HAVE BEEN MEETING WEEKLY! Be a part of our ZOOM meetings! Fun, games, fellowship & Bible study talks. Keep it up and remind others! (Tuesday night - Jr. High, Thursday night - Sr. High) both at 7 PM.  Info will be shared on the blog, address: imlutheranyouth.org. Or on the Immanuel Website: imlutheran.org, at the start of the week (Monday).

We have had some great youth meetings online!! Looking forward to YOU joining us! 
I haven’t forgotten 5th & 6th grade, But I think we may wait until we can get back together in person (Hopefully in the near future!!!!)

Christ, Coffee, and Conversation via Zoom Tuesday, May 19th 10:00 a.m.
